Bad Vibrations

As you can see in the picture above, the flexible connector was extended through the furnace sidewall. As the furnace vibrated it chaffed through the flex connector and it caught fire. Luckily in this case the damage was limited to the furnace. But a flex connector failure can burn your house down.

Above is a picture of a package unit that's sitting on top of a strip mall. As you see the hard pipe extends through the furnace's sidewall as it should.

(The really astute among you will notice all the unnecessary turns in the pipe above. Both pictures are examples of why you should always worry more about the contractor you choose than the brand you install.)
